About the Department

The College was established in 1978-79; the Department of Botany was set up in the same period with a built-up area of about 2,000 sq.ft. Sri A. Subbaiah was the founding Head of the Department. The Department follows the syllabus framed by Sri Venkateswara University.

Curriculum Overview

Students begin with microbial diversity, evolution, cryptogams and plant anatomy in the first year; move to plant taxonomy, embryology, physiology and metabolism in the second; and in the final year cover cell biology, genetics, plant breeding, ecology, phytogeography, horticulture, ethnobotany, medicinal botany and pharmacognosy.
