National Service Scheme (NSS)
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a public-service programme launched in 1969 by the Government of India. Its motto is “Not Me, But You”.
About NSS
NSS aims at developing students’ personality through community service. NSS volunteers serve adopted villages and the local community through regular and special camping programmes. The College’s NSS units conduct regular weekend activities and one annual seven-day special camp in an adopted village.
Objectives
- Understand the community in which they work.
- Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve themselves in problem-solving.
- Develop a sense of social and civic responsibility.
- Utilise their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.
- Acquire leadership qualities and a democratic attitude.
- Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters.
Activities
- Adoption of a village; surveys and awareness drives.
- Annual special camp (7 days) with structured community-service projects.
- Observance of important days: NSS Day, Independence Day, Voter’s Day, Yoga Day.
- Health camps, blood-donation drives, plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns.
- Voter awareness, anti-drug, road-safety and women-safety campaigns.
